Siixvik - Selawik

90 miles east of Kotzebue, within the Selawik National Wildlife Refuge, is an area that has been inhabited for at least 10,000 years by the Native people. Linked together by bridges and boardwalks, Selawik sprawls across three multi-channel rivers and is a breeding and resting spot for thousands of migratory birds. With over 900 people residing in town, Selawik is one of the largest villages in the region. The school boasts about 270 students, most of whom are Alaska Natives.
