Inupiaq Days or moments are inserted into the school to remind students of their cultural heritage. Parents, Elders, Community leaders help instruct their children in the traditional ways of their ancestors. As the year continues, we will keep updating the events on this page, so check back every so often. BERRY PICKING: Every fall, the village people gather berries for making Eskimo Ice Cream, Sauces, and a variety of traditional foods. Blueberries, Black Berries, Cranberries, and Salmon Berries abound. Students were excited about picking the berries to bring back to the school for further instructions.
Cutting a Moose and Drying the Fish: Some of the students are learning how to cut up a moose and dry the fish.
Seining: Elders sein for White Fish to dry for later use. Students help with the nets.
ICE FISHING & CHECKING A NET UNDER THE ICE: Whitefish and Pike are both good eating fish. The nets caught quite a few during the week but the temperature decreased and the fish were few. We pulled the net out from under the ice.
