NWABSD operates schools in eleven villages, with a total enrollment upwards of 2,000 students. Schools range in size from 43 in Kobuk to 850 in Kotzebue, but the District places a high priority on maintaining equal standards in curriculum and assessment at all schools.
Around NWABSD, the average class size is 18, and 90% of students are Iñupiaq Eskimo. Schools are managed out of the District Office in Kotzebue, and are governed by a Regional School Board of 11 members elected from Kotzebue and surrounding villages.
The Curriculum and Instruction Department is responsible for maintaining high standards and quality instruction throughout the learning process. We strive to provide quality support to all the schools within the Northwest Arctic Borough School District.
